Sociologists have devised certain ways for people to avoid being mugged. A lot many parts of the United States have this problem. In unassuming areas, where there is not much help, criminals elicit money forcibly from people. They even go to the extent of killing people if resisted upon.
Muggings are common in places that see a high number of tourists. Tourists often do not know which place is safe and which is not. They might wander about aimlessly, which is a sure sign of wandering into a lion’s den.
To avoid being mugged, here are some tips.
- Dress like how the local people do. If you are from India, don’t wear a sari in New York. You might attract attention from muggers.
- Don’t look amazed. Look as if you have seen it all. If you look at things around in amazement, muggers will know that you are not ready for an attack.
- Don’t get into by-lanes of ghettos. Certain alleys are places of waiting criminal activity. Such alleys may not be under the nose of law enforcement authorities. You must understand that muggings are short and brief. They could last only a minute.
When being mugged, you should
- Never shout Help! Help! To stop the mugger. You might want to try, ”Hey, this guy’s got something about him!”
- Don’t fight. Most muggers have guns. Don’t even gun-fight. Even if you were to lose money, don’t lose your life.
- Don’t abuse a mugger. You might be shot dead. Muggers are emotional assassins.
